GRA
Needs Your Help!
The
Georgia Retail Association is sensitive to all issues that affect
your bottom line. With this in mind we would like your opinions
on the following Georgia retail issue:
The ad valorem personal property tax is a tax that is administered
to all citizens of Georgia and businesses located in the state.
One aspect of this tax is to tax all inventory at its cost that
a business has in its possession. The tax rate is determined by
the millage rate of the county that your business is located in.
Currently, Georgia is one of only ten states currently taxing the
inventory that businesses hold in their possession. Of these ten
states three (Indiana, Ohio and Rhode Island) have began the process
to phase out these taxes. During the past Georgia legislative session,
the general assembly adopted HR 486 which was to create a House
Ad Valorem Inventory Tax Study Committee to study the affect the
imposition and collection of such taxes have acted as a disincentive
to the location or relocation of business facilities in border communities
due to a lack of such taxes in states which border Georgia.
Please answer the questions either online (below) or print a copy
(survey) and fax back
to (770) 484-5727 so your voices can be heard by the committee and
the Legislature of Georgia. If you would like to testify at one
of the committee hearings, please contact Shelly Stephens at ShellyS@GeorgiaRetail.org.
