In this issue:
INCREASE IN FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE
This is a reminder that the Federal Minimum Wage will increase to
$6.55 per hour on July 24th, 2008.
The next increase to $7.25 will take place July 24, 2009.
While Georgia does not have a minimum wage law, many states do have
minimum wage laws. Some state laws provide greater employee protections,
and in those states employers must comply with both.
The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor
Standards Act (FLSA). The FLSA does not provide wage payment collection
procedures for an employee’s usual or promised wages or commissions
in excess of those required by the FLSA. However, some states do
have laws under which such claims (sometimes including fringe benefits)
may be filed.
For more information you can contact the US Department of Labor
at www.wagehour.dol.gov
or by calling at 1-866-4-USWAGE.
Thank you.
